Organization History
BLCI was originally founded in 1996 as an elementary institute in response to research conducted on the college-going rate of adults in the Barrio Logan neighborhood of San Diego. As our original pilot cohorts of students and parents grew, so did our program! BLCI expanded to meet the needs of our middle and high school students, and in 2004 our first two seniors graduated from high school and left home to attend Yale and the University of New Mexico.

Program Description
Eleven years after our inception we now work with 3rd-12th grade students and their families, and are expanding our program to include alumni as well. With 21 alumni, a 100% high school graduation and college acceptance rate (2 or 4 year), and over 100 current students with big dreams for the future, BLCI is looking forward while giving back to the community!

Partners and Supporters
BLCI is currently supported through the generosity of local businesses, banks, foundations, and individuals. As we continue to expand our organization to serve BLCI alumni and their families, we are actively seeking colleges to join us as College Partners (program still under development). For more information on how to become a College Partner, please contact Executive Director Diana Getrich Villegas.
