Program Description
AlaskAdvantage Programs support school counselors, mentors, and education professionals, as well as students and parents, through workshops and presentations at high schools, career fairs, and partner-organization events throughout the state.  In conjunction with partner organizations, ACPE delivers Alaska College Goal Sunday and "I'm Going to College" Programs statewide.  ACPE produces several education-related publications which are direct-mailed to the homes of eighth-grade- and eleventh-grade students each year.

The AlaskAdvantage Success Center (our walk-in center in Anchorage) provides one-stop access to information and resources to assist Alaskans in their pursuit of higher education.  Success Center staff work with individual students and their parents, as well as with non-traditional students, to complete the FAFSA and navigate through the financial aid process.  Staff also guide students to career and education resources and information.

Organization History
The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education was established by the Alaska Legislature in 1974 to administer student aid programs and regulate postsecondary educational institutions in the state.  In 1987 the Legislature created the Alaska Student Loan Corporation (ASLC), a public entity whose mission  is to provide low-interest student loans to Alaska residents.  These two organizations work together to improve educational opportunities for Alaskans.

Together ACPE and ASLC administer various outreach and financial aid programs to make higher education more accessible to Alaskans.  Through AlaskAdvantage Programs ACPE is able to offer Alaskans the lowest cost education financial aid (grants and loans) in the nation.  ACPE also delivers financial aid and postsecondary education information and support to all regions of the state through its outreach programs and age-sequenced publications.

Partners and Supporters
The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) is an enterprise agency of the state of Alaska.  ACPE regularly partners with mentoring organizations and education entities statewide to expand the reach of college access programs.  Key partners include the University of Alaska; CASHE (Coalition of Alaskans Supporting Higher Education) members: University of Alaska, ANCSA (Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act Education Consortium), ALASFAA (Alaska Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators); and the Lumina Foundation.
