Program Description
The mission of College Bound St. Louis is to provide promising high school students from under-resourced backgrounds with the academic enrichment, social supports and life skills needed to apply, matriculate and succeed in four-year colleges.  Our goal is to level the playing field for students who have no economic resources, social or educational supports with which to navigate the complicated hurdles to and through college.   The College Bound program begins with students as they make the transition from freshman to sophomore year in high school and remains with students until they graduate from college.

College Bound St. Louis has programs that take place in four principal areas over seven years.  They are - academic preparation; college knowledge and guidance; character education, cultural awareness and social capacity building; and college persistence. Some activities include subject area tutoring; study skills workshops; meetings with college mentors; personalized ACT preparation; paid and volunteer internships in government and local businesses; summer academic intensives in mathematics and language arts; one-on-one college and financial aid application guidance.

Organization History
In January 2006, a small group of people gave up their jobs and salaries, implored policy makers and devoted human and financial resources to create a program that would change the lives of young people through the power of higher education.  Within four months, two school districts approved theprogram, the government granted 501 (c) 3 charitable status and 36 students placed their hopes for a better future in College Bound.

In January 2007, The State of Missouri’s Department of Economic Development increased College Bound’s capacity to fundraise, and thereby to serve, by issuing YOP tax credits; and in June 2007, one year after recruiting its first class, College Bound tripled the number of students enrolled in the program.  As of January 2008, College Bound will serve 170 students in high school and college.  College Bound is poised to expand to additional districts in 2009.
