Program Description

We provide scholarships and mentors to low income minority students in Pierce County.  We continue to support and mentor them throughout their 4 - 5 years in college and are very proud of our graduation rate which is over 90%.

Organization History
Palmer Scholars was founded in 1983 by R. Merle Palmer.  He started out by helping a few students from an East Tacoma church.  He personally funded and mentored these first students.  Over the years the organization grew as he took on more students, obtained donors and solicited help with the mentoring program.

In 1996 the organization was incorporated as a non-profit and since that time we have been able to increase the number of students we help through foundation funding.  We currently have over 250 alumni of our Palmer Scholars Program.
